Coaching for Captains’ Mission is to inspire and prepare teen athletes to become role models and leaders in their community.
At school visits, regional trainings, and monthly workshops, we use experiential learning to educate, support and develop leadership skills and healthy behaviors. The program builds the resilience of young athletes to navigate adolescence safely with a vision for a positive future.
Coaching for Captains is a leadership development program for high school athletes which promotes a culture of success on and off the field of play.
The program is designed to:
- Inspire and prepare student athletes to be courageous and informed peer leaders to address risky behaviors
- Build the resilience of young athletes to navigate adolescence safely and with a vision for a positive future
- Teach teens to be stronger communicators for confident self-expression, self-care, relationship building, teamwork and conflict resolution
What’s in it for the participants?
Coaching for Captains addresses the aspects of athletics that physical conditioning and practice do not. Participants can gain an edge over their competition by working on the mental, social, and emotional parts of the game.
Who should participate?
- Sophomores are the target audience, however freshmen and juniors can participate as well
- Student athletes who are interested in improving their life skills and making a difference in their community
- All athletes who are rising leaders or who aspire to be; not just captains

For your health and safety, Second Growth has postponed our “Arts Camp” to late June after school closes. Please check back in a few weeks to see the new dates.
Until then, please take care, and make the best of your time at home with a good balance of outdoor activities, reading good books, pursuing your artistic passions, helping out at home, and learning new things. We look forward to seeing you soon and hearing your stories!
Second Growth has developed a new youth program for Middle School students who are interested in the Arts: Spring Break Arts Camp.
Developed by Second Growth Youth Program staff, Spring Break Arts Camp will provide participants with activities and experiential learning designed to foster communication skills, relationship building, encourage leadership, bring awareness and prevention techniques to bear on bullying, and address awareness and prevention of substance use. This curriculum will be offered within an arts-focused platform providing students a creative outlet for their work in whatever field of Arts they have a passion – music, fine arts, video & film, theater, and creative writing. On day-one, the students will decide what kinds of creative projects they would like to accomplish during the week and make plans to achieve their goals by week’s end. We will culminate the week with a performance and an exhibition of their work. Lunch and snacks will be provided each day. Participants will be asked to bring their art materials and/or instruments and Second Growth will supplement with additional materials as needed.
Week One: TO BE ANNOUNCED.
