Coaching for Captains’ Mission is to inspire and prepare teen athletes to become role models and leaders in their community.

At school visits, regional trainings, and monthly workshops, we use experiential learning to educate, support and develop leadership skills and healthy behaviors. The program builds the resilience of young athletes to navigate adolescence safely with a vision for a positive future.

Coaching for Captains Registration for the 2021-22 class will open soon.

What is Coaching for Captains? Coaching for Captains teamwork activity photo

Coaching for Captains is a leadership development program for high school athletes which promotes a culture of success on and off the field of play.

The program is designed to:

  • Inspire and prepare student athletes to be courageous and informed peer leaders to address risky behaviors
  • Build the resilience of young athletes to navigate adolescence safely and with a vision for a positive future
  • Teach teens to be stronger communicators for confident self-expression, self-care, relationship building, teamwork and conflict resolution

What’s in it for the participants?

Coaching for Captains addresses the aspects of athletics that physical conditioning and practice do not. Participants can gain an edge over their competition by working on the mental, social, and emotional parts of the game.

Who should participate?

  • Sophomores are the target audience, however freshmen and juniors can participate as well
  • Student athletes who are interested in improving their life skills and making a difference in their community
  • All athletes who are rising leaders or who aspire to be; not just captains

Join us in 2021: TWO WEEKS TO CHOOSE FROM!!

Second Growth has developed a new youth program for Middle School students who are interested in the Arts: Spring Break Arts Camp.

Developed by Second Growth Youth Program staff, Spring Break Arts Camp will provide participants with activities and experiential learning designed to foster communication skills, relationship building, encourage leadership, bring awareness and prevention techniques to bear on bullying, and address awareness and prevention of substance use. This curriculum will be offered within an arts-focused platform providing students a creative outlet for their work in whatever field of Arts they have a passion – music, fine arts, video & film, theater, and creative writing. On day-one, the students will decide what kinds of creative projects they would like to accomplish during the week and make plans to achieve their goals by week’s end. We will culminate the week with a performance and an exhibition of their work.  Lunch and snacks will be provided each day. Participants will be asked to bring their art materials and/or instruments and Second Growth will supplement with additional materials as needed.

2021 Spring Break Arts Camp will be held for two weeks!

Registration is quick and easy, and the program is FREE!!

Second Growth is delighted to offer this program to local Middle School students FREE of charge!

Second Growth Presents: ADULTING 101

Have you ever wondered how to balance a checkbook, what to wear to a job interview, how to put air your car’s tires, or what to do when a friend sprains their ankle while you’re on a hike? And are you wondering NOW how all these random skills fit together?

They fit together in a new program called Adulting 101 where Second Growth staff and local professionals will provide information and activities to help you learn about things you will some day soon face in the adult world.

Second Growth will be hosting Adulting 101 on a regular basis, here in our office or out in the community. Each meeting will include learning how to cook a favorite meal, and fun activities related to the following topics: Personal Finance, Health, Car Repair, Wellness, General Knowledge, Business Etiquette, and more!

We’ll be posting the dates on Facebook and here on our website, so check back soon, and plan to join us for good food, friends, and fun.
